Xiangxiang baked cake is a traditional dessert in Xiangxiang City, Xiangtan City. It's ivory-white and will melt in your mouth as soon as you taste it. It's nutritious and features a light flavor. Since there's no oil or salt in it and it’s baked over fire, the cake is baby-friendly and easy to preserve on journey.
The cake has a long history of over 200 years since it was made the very first time by Tianyuanzhai in 1723. General Zeng Guofan treated his soldiers with the cake when they quelled Taiping Rebellion. Then he brought some to the emperor and ministers, and they all loved it. Thus, the cake was made to be one of the designated articles of tribute.
