The county government has acted on the principle that lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets and has leveraged its Danxia resources to develop ecological scenic areas such as Wanfo Mountain, Immortal Cave, Qixing Mountain, General Mountain, and Ziyun Mountain.

Wanfo Mountain lies in the heart of a 168-square-kilometer-long Danxia Landform area in Tongdao, Hunan. It occupies 100 square kilometers, with its highest peak reaching 635m. Wanfo Mountain, or Ten Thousand Buddhas Mountain, is named after its numerous Buddha-shaped peaks which face the same direction. It is also known for the red 100-meter-tall rocks sculpted by wind, rain and time into extraordinary shapes.
