Chinese Red Cross Hospital Hunan Branch was the predecessor of Hunan Provincial People's Hospital, founded in 1912 by Yan Fuqing, father of modern medicine, founder of the Chinese Medical Association and first president of the hospital. In 1958, it was renamed Hunan Provincial People's Hospital. In 2006, it cooperated with Hunan Normal University (HNNU), a key university among the National "211 Project", becoming the first affiliated hospital of HNNU.
