Yuelu Academy

Nestled at the foot of Yuelu Mountain in Changsha, Hunan Province, Yuelu Academy is an ancient institution with a rich history, remaining the only traditional academy in the country to both preserve its centuries-old legacy and continue its scholarly activities to this day.

Established in 976 during the Northern Song Dynasty, the academy has carried forward its educational mission through the Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties. Its journey from Yuelu Academy to Hunan University represents a remarkable evolution from ancient scholarship to modern education.

Half-price ticket: 20 yuan per person
Free admission – The following visitors may obtain a free ticket upon presentation of valid identification:
- Chinese citizens under 18 years of age (18 not included);
- Seniors aged 65 and older (65 included);
- Persons with disabilities;
- Active-duty and retired military personnel; and,
- Retired military officers.
Half-price ticket – The following visitors may purchase a half-price ticket upon presentation of valid identification:
- Seniors aged 60 (60 included) to 65 (65 not included); and,
Getting there: Yuelu Academy is located in the Yuelu Mountain Scenic Area. It is recommended to use public transportation to get there. You can take the Lishan Express or Bus Dakecheng No. 1, 2, or 3 to Yuelu Mountain, or take Metro Line 4 to Hunan University Station, then walk 600 meters.
