Hunan's High-speed Railway Network to Handle 22 Mln Passenger Trips During Summer Travel Rush

This year's summer railway travel rush began on July 1. The travel rush will last 62 days until August 31. According to the Changsha South Railway Station, the 18 high-speed rail stations under its jurisdiction are expected to handle 22 million passenger trips during this period, marking a year-on-year increase of 1.817 million trips, or a growth of 9%. Among these, the Changsha South Railway Station alone is projected to handle 12.449 million passenger trips, an average of 201,000 per day, and representing a year-on-year increase of 9% or 1.028 million trips.

Zhang Tao, a spokesperson for the Changsha South Railway Station, noted that the station will operate 14 extra high-speed trains per day to address passengers’ growing demand for travel, bringing the total number of daily trips to over 600, with a 15% increase in transport capacity. Additionally, with the new train schedule taking effect on July 1, the fastest travel time from Changsha to Hangzhou has been reduced to just 3 hours and 12 minutes, a time reduction of nearly 35%.

To meet the diverse travel needs of passengers, the Changsha South Railway Station has introduced two special services—lightweight luggage handling and pet consignment. Passengers can book the "Travel Light" service via the 12306 App or the WeChat mini-program, and staff members will collect luggage from their doorstep and deliver it to the station or collect the luggage upon arrival and deliver it to a designated place, easing the burden of passengers with heavy luggage.

Meanwhile, the pet consignment service is available on 14 designated high-speed trains, including G6003 and G6120, connecting to major stations such as Beijing West Railway Station and Shanghai Hongqiao Station. The pet transport cases are equipped with air circulation systems, environmental monitors, and cooling compartments. The pet-friendly service allows pets to board with their owners and receive special care from staff members during the trip.
