Hunan's Seven Urban Districts Shortlisted for Top 100 National Tourism Strengths List

The 2024 National Urban Districts Tourism Research Report and the 2024 Lists of Top 100 National Urban Districts with Comprehensive Tourism Strengths and Top 100 National Urban Districts with Tourism Development Potentials were recently announced. They were the results of the 5th National Urban Districts Tourism Research.

Five districts of Changsha City, namely Yuhua, Furong, Yuelu, Kaifu, and Tianxin; Yongding District of Zhangjiajie City; and, Nanyue District of Hengyang City were included in the Top 100 National Urban Districts with Comprehensive Tourism Strengths 2024. Among them, Yuhua District ranked 30th, taking the lead provincewide.

Wangcheng District of Changsha City, Wulingyuan District of Zhangjiajie City, Hecheng District of Huaihua City, Yuetang District of Xiangtan City, and Beihu District of Chenzhou City were shortlisted for the Top 100 National Urban Districts with Tourism Development Potentials 2024.


China's urban tourism has entered a new development phase. Various cities have continued to upgrade the traditional tourism industry, innovate products and services, and vigorously cultivate new quality productive forces in the field of tourism. The study on the comprehensive tourism strengths of urban districts set up a research and evaluation system with 32 indicators in 6 aspects, namely, tourism development level, tourism marketing intensity, tourism driving effect, tourism basic conditions, tourism facilities and services, and tourism market supervision. Candidate districts with top 100 scores are titled the Top 100 National Urban Districts with Comprehensive Tourism Strengths in 2024.


In recent years, Changsha has accelerated the integration of culture and tourism, continually bringing forth new technologies, formats, and expressions. Yuhua District realized a total tourism revenue of 43.348 billion CNY in 2023, up 22.87% year on year. The district received 38.8 million tourist trips, a year-on-year increase of 13.65%, both figures topping Changsha. In the first half of this year, the district achieved total tourism revenue of 22.721 billion CNY and witnessed 21.7135 million tourist trips, growing by 5.71% and 4.42% respectively.
