Hunan's ports saw a boom in inbound and outbound trips during summer vacation. From July 1 to August 31, Hunan's ports handled more than 320,000 entry-exit trips and 2,100 inbound and outbound flights, a year-on-year increase of 88% and 66%, respectively, according to the Hunan General Station of Exit and Entry Frontier Inspection. In particular, Changsha port handled over 220,000 inbound and outbound trips, a 93% increase year on year. Zhangjiajie port handled more than 100,000 cross-border trips, up by 78%.
Hunan's ports saw more than 170,000 entry-exit trips made by Chinese mainland residents for personal business during the summer vacation, a year-on-year increase of 104%. Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Kenya, and other countries were the top outbound destinations. Families planning tours or attending overseas summer camps for primary and secondary school children were the main cross-border travelers during the summer vacation. The number of Chinese mainland residents under the age of 14 accounted for 12% of the total Chinese mainland residents for outbound tourism.
Meanwhile, more than 140,000 trips were made by foreigners during July and August, a year-on-year increase of 72%. Most of them arrived in China via Hunan's ports for sightseeing. The majority of these international travels came from South Korea, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore. The number of foreigners entering through Hunan under the visa-free policy accounted for 23% of the total inbound foreign visitors.
During the summer vacation, the Hunan General Station of Exit and Entry Frontier Inspection has made forecast of passenger flows in advance, increased the number of staff, and adjusted customs clearance passages to ensure an efficient and smooth customs clearance process. The 12367 platform which offers 24/7 online consultation services handled nearly 3,000 cases during July and August, making a year-on-year increase of 14%. About 99.6% phone calls were connected within 15 seconds.
