Hunan's Inbound Tourist Visits Soar in Q1

The Hunan Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism announced the province's inbound tourism data in the first quarter on April 16. Hunan received 406,100 inbound tourist visits in the first quarter of 2024, an increase of 14.28 times over the same period last year. Foreign exchange earnings from inbound tourism reached more than 127 million USD, a year-on-year increase of 23.71 times. 

During the January-March period, the province registered 328,500 foreign tourist visits and 77,600 visits by Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan tourists. In particular, Hunan saw 267,900 Asian tourist trips, including 116,500 made by South Korean tourists. The number of South Korean tourist visits to Hunan accounted for 35.5% of the province's total inbound tourist visits, a surge of over 91 times year on year. Hunan received 11,000 visits by USA tourists, representing the largest number among European and American countries.

Zhangjiajie remains a top choice for inbound tourists who plan to visit Hunan. Zhangjiajie received 261,200 inbound tourist visits in the first quarter of 2024, a 47.58 times increase over the same period of 2023 and a 44.44% rise over 2019. The city's inbound tourists are from 101 countries and regions, registering a more diversified structure. South Korea remains Zhangjiajie's major source of tourists. The number of South Korean tourist visits to Zhangjiajie hit 105,100 in the first quarter, a surge of 367.76 times over the same period of 2023 and 27.07% over that of 2019. The figure accounted for 40.23% of Zhangjiajie's total inbound tourist visits.
