Over 6.53 Mln Passenger Trips Handled in New Year Holiday

During the three-day New Year holiday, the China Railway Guangzhou Group has recorded 6.531 million passenger trips in total, with daily passenger trips averaging 2.177 million, according to the official data. The Changsha South Railway Station has handled 194,000 passenger departures and 175,000 arrivals. 


The return trips hit the peak on January 1, with 2.2 million passenger departures and 2.007 million arrivals on that day.


"During the New Year holiday, the passenger trips were mainly concentrated on several railway sections, including those between Guangzhou and Shenzhen; between the Guangzhou-Shenzhou regions and the Chaozhou-Shantou region, Zhanjiang, and Changsha; and, within Hunan Province," said a person in charge of the group's passenger transport department.


The group has fully utilized the passenger transport big data, making timely adjustments of train operations to ensure stable and smooth transportation during the peak period.


To cope with the return travel peak, the group operated 2,915 trains, including 2,596 bullet trains and 319 normal-speed trains, on January 1. It added 149 trains, mainly serving the travelers from Guangzhou and Shenzhou towards the popular destinations such as Changsha, Yueyang, Zhanjiang, and Chaozhou-Shantou regions.
