"West Meets East: Retrospective Exhibition of Marc Riboud's Photography" Opens

The "West Meets East: Retrospective Exhibition of Marc Riboud's Photography" opened at the Hunan Museum on the afternoon of September 25. The exhibition is hosted by the Hunan Museum and the Musée Guimet, and co-organized by the Association of the Friends of Marc Riboud, the French Embassy in China, and the Institut français de Chine.

The year 2024 marks the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and France, and is also the China-France Year of Culture and Tourism. The exhibition is an important visual art project of the Croisements Festival special events in Changsha to mark the 60th anniversary of the establishment of China-France diplomatic ties.
The exhibition displays 118 classic photographs by Marc Riboud from the collection of the Musée Guimet in France, including precious photographs taken during the photographer's over 20 visits to China between 1957 and 2010. The exhibition is divided into four parts: "Pictures of Europe in the Early Years", "A Journey to the East", "The Turbulent World", and "The Changes of Modern China".

With keen intuition, unique artistic perspective and rich visual language, Mark Riboud captured the enormous changes in China from the 1950s to 2010 to the West. His photographic works are not only of high artistic value, but also of great historical significance, witnessing the great changes in China. Many historical moments have become the epitome of China in the 20th century.

The exhibition is open to the public free of charge, lasting from September 26 to December 10.
