2024 Cultural and Natural Heritage Day Changsha Publicity and Exhibition Event Opens

The 2024 Cultural and Natural Heritage Day Changsha Publicity and Exhibition Event opened at the Changsha Xihulou Restaurant on June 10.

Cultural and Natural Heritage Day is an annual event observed on the second Saturday in June. It plays a crucial role in showcasing the accomplishments made in the protection and utilization of cultural relics, as well as the preservation and inheritance of cultural and natural heritage in China.

The event was sponsored by the Changsha Municipal Bureau of Culture, Tourism, Radio and Television, the CPC Kaifu District Committee, and the People's Government of Kaifu District, and undertaken by the Changsha Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Center and the Bureau of Culture, Tourism and Sports of Kaifu District.

With the theme of "Protecting and Inheriting Intangible Cultural Heritage, Carrying Forward the Fine Historical Traditions, and Writing a New Chapter for Our Times", the event is committed to offering a one-stop summer travel experience that integrates food, appreciation, entertainment, and shopping. It will last until June 17.

Various programs were staged at the opening ceremony, including Hunan opera, acrobatics, and children's singing and dancing performances. The second award ceremony for "Changsha's Most Beautiful Cultural Relics Guardians" was also held. Additionally, plaques were granted to Changsha's projects that were included in Hunan's sixth batch of representative intangible cultural heritages.

A summer cultural tourism bazaar, which opened the same day, consists of four exhibition and sales areas dedicated to food, merchandise, creativity, and entertainment. It brought together thousands of intangible cultural heritage products, such as Hunan embroidery, Tongguan kiln porcelain, Nvshu (women's script), palm leaf weaving, xiabu plant-fiber cloth, Gushan inkstone, chrysanthemum stone carving, cloisonné enamel, Weishan Lei Cha (ground tea), and traditional Chinese incense. Besides, cultural tourism consumption vouchers worth 500,000 yuan were issued via the official WeChat account of the Changsha Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Center. The vouchers, with a face value of 100 yuan, 50 yuan, and 30 yuan, can be used at the bazaar.

In addition to the bazaar, a week-long China-chic garden party will be also organized from June 11, offering intangible cultural heritage performances including crosstalk, tanci (storytelling), and oral stunts. Inheritors of intangible cultural heritage items such as Hunan embroidery, paper cutting, rubbing, weaving and Qiao's bonesetting will be invited to the garden party. Visitors will have the chance to learn skills from the inheritors and participate in interactive hands-on activities.
