China-Africa (Kenya) Agricultural Development Cooperation Fair Opens

The China-Africa (Kenya) Agricultural Development Cooperation Fair was held at the Edge Convention Center in the Kenyan capital of Nairobi on the afternoon of May 9, 2024. It was jointly planned by the Secretariat of China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo Organizing Committee and the Ministry of Trade and Industry of Kenya, and co-organized by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of Hunan Province, the Department of Commerce of Hunan Province, and the Kenya Investment Authority. The meeting aimed to discuss the way of China-Africa agricultural development, explore new opportunities for China-Africa agricultural cooperation, deepen China-Africa agricultural collaboration, and jointly promote the high-quality development in agricultural sector.


More than 200 representatives from the Kenyan Ministry of Agriculture, Kenya Investment Authority, Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), relevant departments of Hunan Provincial People's Government, Yiyang City, Yueyang City, and Yongzhou City, and agricultural enterprises and business associations from China and Africa joined the meeting. Responsible persons from the Agricultural Enterprises and Market Development Department of the Ministry of Agriculture of Kenya, the International Exchange and Cooperation Division of the Department of Agricultural and Rural Affairs of Hunan Province, and AGRA Asian Division, delivered speeches at the meeting, pinning high hopes on future China-Africa agricultural partnership.


Guests from the Kenya Investment Authority, Sino-Africa Joint Research Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Kenya China Chamber of Commerce, Zoomlion Heavy Industry Co., Ltd., and Yuan Longping High-Tech Agriculture Co., Ltd. made speeches on cooperation and promotion of investment and trade policies, agricultural machinery, and agricultural cultivation. Six agricultural projects, such as the Kenya light-pressed Fuzhuan brick tea technical cooperation project and the Kenya avocado procurement project, were signed on site, with a total investment of 25.5 million USD.


The symposium especially set up a free exchange and matchmaking session for enterprises. Representative agricultural enterprises of China and Africa had heated discussions and shared experiences on agricultural product trade, agricultural investment and technical cooperation, agricultural machinery trade, and other topics, leading to remarkable results. Five contracts of intent were reached on the spot, with a total value of about 8 million USD.
