Next-generation "Tianhe" Supercomputing System Starts Operation in Changsha

A next-generation supercomputing system, "Tianhe" of the National Supercomputing Center in Changsha, started operation on October 9, 2022. It is a key construction project of Hunan Province. The upgrading and construction of the mainframe system of the National Supercomputing Center in Changsha is jointly funded by Hunan Province, Changsha City, and Yuelu Mountain National University Science and Technology Town. Hunan University is responsible for the construction.


Since its operation in 2014, the National Supercomputing Center in Changsha has provided 1.6 billion core hours of high-performance computing, big data, and artificial intelligence services to more than 2,000 users in 40 fields. It has made significant contributions to serving national and local scientific and technological innovation, and regional economic and social development, especially in the fight against the COVID-19 epidemic. After the new-generation "Tianhe" supercomputing system is put into operation, the center will contribute to the building of an advanced computing ecosystem, enabling industrial development, serving the digital government and society construction, and supporting major scientific and technological innovations.


Song Junqiang, Chen Zhengqing, Zheng Jianlong, Luo An, Zou Xuexiao, Wang Yaonan, Wang Huaimin, and Shan Yang, all are academicians of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, participated in the ceremony.
