Cross-stitch embroidery originated in the Han Dynasty (202 BCE – 220 CE), and matured after the Ming and Qing Dynasties (1368–1912). It features a unique "clear yarn" stitch technique, commonly known as "counting stitch," positioned by counting yarns and formed by cross-stitches. Using colorful silk threads, embroiderers create impromptu embroidery patterns on blue coarse cloths.
