On June 25, harvesters worked in the rice fields of Fulian Village, Maozhu Town, Qiyang City, marking the start of this year's early-season rice harvest and setting a new record for the earliest start in Hunan. The 100 mu (6.67 hectares) of early-season rice harvested this time were machine-transplanted in mid-April. The crop was the extra-early maturing rice variety "Songya Zhenzhen," developed by the Hybrid Rice Research Center of the Hunan Academy of Agricultural Sciences. With proper planting density and meticulous water and fertilizer management, pest and disease incidence was low, enabling a staggered harvest. At the current pace, the entire early-season rice harvest will be completed by early July, ensuring ample time for late-season rice transplanting and a good harvest. At the harvest site, the Hunan Association of Agricultural Science Societies organized experts to monitor yields. After impurities were removed and moisture was adjusted, the final yield came to 400.4 kilograms per mu, which was close to Hunan's average annual yield of early-season rice per mu.
