Recently, 40 TEUs of PV glass from Chenzhou Kibing Photovoltaic and Electronic Glass Co., Ltd. departed from the Chenzhou Land Port to Vietnam, marking the port's first enterprise-dedicated special train of this year.
"A through bill of lading (B/L) for rail-sea intermodal service has been adopted for the special train, resulting in a 35% reduction in transportation costs," said a person in charge of the company. In the past, exports were delivered by ordinary trains, which would take about two days for multiple marshalling. Nowadays, thanks to rail-sea intermodal transport, exports can be transported to and depart from Nansha Port within 12 hours. The company can save nearly 5 million CNY in transportation costs yearly.
In recent years, Beihu District of Chenzhou City has seized the development opportunity of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) to actively advance the land port economy. The Chenzhou Land Port has been approved with an international port code of Chenzhou Port. At present, it has opened an array of opening up logistics channels, including the Chenzhou-Changsha-Europe international freight train service, Hunan-Guangdong-Africa rail-sea intermodal transport service, and Hunan-Guangdong-Hong Kong Single E-lock Scheme (SELS). The port has joined hands with Guangzhou Port and others to build an "inland port" in the port cluster of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, rapidly driving the integration of Hunan and Chenzhou products into China-Africa, China-Europe, and ASEAN new corridors.
The Chenzhou Land Port also opened a through B/L business in 2024, realizing the new mode of "one commission and one loading, without unloading till the end". This solves such difficulties faced by enterprises as high transportation costs of import and export of goods, multiple turnover times, and low security for goods, reducing the comprehensive enterprise logistics costs by about 30%. It was learned that Chenzhou "imported goods rail-sea intermodal transportation through B/L logistics new model" was highly appraised by the provincial free trade zone office, honored as a provincial achievement in institutional innovation.
Since the beginning of the new year, Chenzhou Land Port's through B/L for rail-sea intermodal service has showed a good momentum of rapid growth. It is expected that the amount of goods transported through the mode will reach tens of thousands of tonnes through the whole year.
