The Yueyang Economic and Technological Development Zone was approved in 1991, officially started construction in 1992, and upgraded to the national level in 2010. It has jurisdiction over one township, one town, and three administrative offices. It has a total area of about 256 square kilometers and a permanent and transient population of about 400,000.
In recent years, under the strong leadership of the municipal Party committee and the municipal government, the development zone has centered on Hunan's beautiful blueprint of "Three Hubs and Four New Missions" strategy to assist Yueyang in building itself into a provincial sub-center city. It has focused on main responsibilities of main projects construction and shouldered main engine function of Yueyang's economic development, achieving new progress and results in various sectors.
The zone is a high-end industrial agglomeration area. It has 464 "Four-Above" enterprises, which refer to the industrial enterprises above designated size; the construction and real estate development and management companies with designated qualification or higher; the wholesale, retail, accommodation, and catering companies above designated size; and, the service industries above designated size. Among them, there are 179 industrial enterprises above designated size, 136 high-tech enterprises, 4 Yueyang-based listed enterprises, and 52 specialized and innovative enterprises above the provincial level. It has formed such advantageous industrial chains as biomedicine and equipment manufacturing.
It is a headquarter economic development zone, boasting a transportation hub of Yueyang City where high-speed railway, expressway, airport, national highway, and urban trunk road intersecting to realize seamless railway-waterway-roadway-air connection. The zone, located in the built-up area of the city, is equipped with complete urban living facilities and public service resources, with unique advantages of developing headquarters economy.
The development zone has generally formed six leading industries of machinery manufacturing, electronic photovoltaic, biomedicine, healthy food, new materials, and modern logistics. This has laid a solid foundation for undertaking industrial transfer, radiation, agglomeration, and cluster development. In the future, the development zone will highlight building three major industries of advanced manufacturing, biomedicine, and high-end services.
