Xiangtan National Economic and Technological Development Zone
The Xiangtan Economic and Technological Development Zone was established at the end of 2003, as a demonstration zone of the national resource-saving and environmentally-friendly society construction and comprehensive reform pilot zone of the Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan (CZT) City Cluster, and a Taiwanese investment zone approved by the provincial government. It was elevated to the national level in September 2011, became the fourth 100-billion-yuan industrial zone in 2013, and was rated as the "most investment-friendly industrial zone with best potential in China" by the Global Times in 2015. It was successfully approved as the Hunan Cross-Strait Industrial Cooperation Zone (Xiangtan Industrial Park) and a national-level green industrial park in 2021.

The development zone was established based on the automobile industry, becoming a veritable town of automobiles. It has formed an automobile and auto parts industrial cluster led by Geely Automobile and Soundon New Energy, each valued at 10 billion yuan. It is one of the top 50 automobile industrial clusters in China and an important automobile production base in Hunan Province. Many Fortune Global 500 enterprises and well-known multinational companies such as Magna, Schaeffler, Katcon, and Eberspächer have settled down here, forming a whole industrial chain that includes automotive research and development, testing, whole set, auto parts, sales, training, and automotive culture, and making every effort to build a "100-billion-yuan" industrial cluster of automobiles and auto parts.
It is also an intelligent manufacturing base and a hub for the development of electronic information industry in the CZT area. PowerLeader and Lens Technology Xiangtan bases have been put into operation, the Yuhua Construction Machinery Supporting Industrial Park has been progressing in an orderly manner, and the cooperation project between Jianglu Heavy Industry and Sunward Intelligent will start operation soon. The development zone will leverage its advantageous platform role of the national new industrialization demonstration base for high-tech transformation and application, to comprehensively promote transformation and industrialization of military-civilian sci-tech integrated achievements; strengthen the Hunan Medical Device Industrial Park; and, build a characteristic industrial brand.
The development zone, located in the geometric center of the CZT City Cluster, has enjoyed unique geographical and transportation advantages, and formed a four-dimensional transportation network of railway, highway, waterway, and aviation.
With low business costs and strong investment vitality and situated at the core area of the CZT Independent Innovation Demonstration Zone, the zone is reputed as a national youth entrepreneurship demonstration zone, a national maker space, and a national sci-tech business incubator. The Xiangtan Economic and Technological Development Zone has been paying attention to the integration of industry and city since its establishment. The top-level design was made by international master planners, with the Xiangjiang River Scenic Belt as the axis, to create a vibrant city integrating fitness, leisure, medical care, and sports in the center of CZT City Cluster.
Meanwhile, the Xiangtan Economic and Technological Development Zone is also the only one in Hunan Province with integrated operation of national-level economic and technological development zone and national-level comprehensive boned zone. The Xiangtan Comprehensive Bonded Zone has effectively replicated and promoted the experiences of the Hunan Pilot Free Trade Zone. It has taken the lead in establishing the first batch of overseas warehouses in the province, becoming an important opening up window in the CZT City Cluster.
