The Ningxiang High-Tech Industrial Development Zone is located in the eastern part of Ningxiang, 23 kilometers away from the Changsha Municipal People's Government. With a total planning area of 65 square kilometers and a built-up area of 15 square kilometers, it is an important functional area and an important part for high-tech industrial development within the Xiangjiang New Area, the first national-level new area in central China under the State Council. It is the front-runner and a main hub of Ningxiang's eastward integration into the city. The zone has been approved as the national energy-saving and environmentally-friendly new material high-tech industrialization base, the national demonstration base for the new industrialization industry, the provincial-level industrial concentration zone in Hunan Province, the low-carbon industrial zone in Hunan Province, and the high-tech industrial development zone in Ningxiang. It has become an indispensable strategic platform for Changsha and Ningxiang.
The Ningxiang High-Tech Industrial Development Zone was established in 2006. It was upgraded to a provincial-level industrial concentration zone in 2012, elevated to a provincial-level high-tech zone in 2015, and approved by the State Council to enter the national level in December 2022. Ningxiang has become the fourth county-level city with two national-level industrial zones, following Kunshan, Changshu, and Yixing of Jiangsu Province.
The zone has been successively approved as a national high-tech industrialization base of new energy-saving and environmentally-friendly materials, a national demonstration base of new industrialization industry (Of which, battery materials have been rated five stars for three consecutive years.), a national battery industry cluster demonstration zone, a national foreign trade transformation and upgrading base (equipment manufacturing), a national torch energy storage materials characteristic industrial base, a national green industrial zone, one of the first batch of national-level patent navigation service bases, an energy storage materials characteristic industrial zone of Hunan Province, and an excellent zone for building Hunan into a pacesetter for reform and opening-up of China's inland regions.
