The Yiyang High-Tech Industrial Development Zone was established in 1991 and upgraded to a national-level high-tech zone in 2011 with the approval of the State Council. The total planned area of the zone is 3,305.49 hectares, including the main high-tech zone and two sub-areas in Longling and Datonghu. The zone is adjacent to the Xiangjiang New Area and located 55 kilometers away from Changsha.
The high-tech zone has been awarded such honors as "National New Industrialization Demonstration Base" and "National Green Industrial Zone." There are now 419 industrial enterprises above the designated size, 287 high-tech enterprises, 22 nationally recognized specialized and innovative "little giant" enterprises, and six main board-listed companies operating here. The zone has attracted enterprises such as SANY, KBC Co., Ltd., and Aihua Electronics to settle down, establishing innovation platforms including the Digital Economy Industrial Park, the Academician and Expert Industrial Park, the China-Israel Technology Industrial Park, and the 5G+ Capacitor Intelligent Manufacturing Innovation Incubation Center. It houses three national-level incubators and two provincial-level incubators.
The high-tech zone has evolved through three distinct phases: initial establishment, provincial-level development zone, and national-level high-tech zone. It has cultivated a "two main, one characteristic" industrial structure centered on high-end equipment manufacturing, electronic information, and new energy and new materials. The zone is accelerating the building of the Hunan Future Optoelectronics Technology Research Institute and actively nurturing future industries such as life and health sciences, artificial intelligence, and optoelectronics technology. It is advancing the integration of scientific and technological innovation and industrial innovation to build a modern industrial system.
Currently, the Yiyang High-Tech Industrial Development Zone is focusing on the blueprint outlined in the "Three Hubs and Four New Missions" Strategy, embarking on a new three-year drive to comprehensively advance its "second entrepreneurial endeavor." The zone is striving to break into the top 60 and ultimately join the vanguard of national-level high-tech zones.
