Huaihua City is situated in the southwest of Hunan Province. It is a "young" city which was built in the 1970s along with the construction of the Hunan-Guizhou and the Jiaozuo-Liuzhou railways.
The city has a good ecological environment and a majestic landscape with many sites of historical interest. The ancient trading town at Hongjiang is well preserved. It is of high archaeological value for the study of the history of economic and social development in western Hunan.
Huaihua is located in the center of the border regions of Hunan, Hubei, Chongqing, Guizhou, and Guangxi. It is a significant node on the Chongqing-Huaihua-Liuzhou-Beibu Gulf line, the eastern passage of China's New International Land-Sea Trade Corridor, and one of the national logistics hub cities. It is the only city in the central regions of China that operates two-way China-Laos and China-Vietnam freight train services.
The Huaihua International Land Port has become a significant access to Europe and ASEAN countries based on the national Belt and Road Initiative, and built a bridge between the central and western regions of China and ASEAN countries. It has injected powerful impetus into the economic development of the ASEAN countries, and the interconnectivity between China and ASEAN.
