On May 25, the launch ceremony of the 2026 Hunan Science and Technology Week and the "Sci-Tech Xiaoxiang Tour (Yuetang)" was held at the Xiangtan Iron & Steel Workers' Cultural Activity Center in Yuetang District, Xiangtan City. Vice Governor Yu Hongsheng announced the start of the event via video link.

Themed "Forging Ahead During the '15th Five-Year Plan' Period, Writing a New Chapter in Sci-Tech," this year's Hunan Science and Technology Week closely aligns with the arrangements for the National Science and Technology Week and National Science and Technology Workers' Day, showcasing the province's scientific and technological innovation achievements, interpreting the sci-tech innovation layout for the '15th Five-Year Plan', and vigorously promoting the spirit of scientists. In addition, this year's sci-tech week will also coordinate with 13 cities and one autonomous prefecture as well as multiple provincial departments, jointly creating a distinctive science popularization matrix.

As the core demonstration brand of the Hunan Science and Technology Week, the "Sci-Tech Xiaoxiang Tour" has been held for six consecutive sessions since its inception in 2021. This year's event gathers a hundred experts from fields such as education, healthcare, agriculture, industry, and new materials, forming multiple sci-tech service teams for health science popularization, enterprise revitalization and agricultural development through sci-tech, science popularization in schools, sci-tech policy publicity, and science popularization caravans. These teams will go to schools, hospitals, communities, enterprises, and villages in Yuetang District, planning to carry out over a hundred targeted, down-to-earth, and livelihood-benefiting sci-tech service activities, empowering the grassroots and benefiting the public through the power of science popularization.

At the launch ceremony, the sci-tech service teams for the "Sci-Tech Xiaoxiang Tour" were awarded flags. Representatives of scientific and technological experts shared their scientific research journeys that strive to be both cutting-edge and grounded in practical needs. College students who outperform in innovation and entrepreneurship exchanged views on their practices of sci-tech innovation.
