Hunan Film – 2026 Malaysia Screening Week Kicks off

From May 18 to 24, the China · Hunan Film – 2026 Malaysia Screening Week, guided by the Hunan Provincial Film Administration and the China Film Distribution and Exhibition Association, and hosted by Hunan Broadcasting System, will be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.


From May 18 to 24, five outstanding Hunan films – Back Home, Battle, Back to the South, Papa, and Mountain Soccer Boy – will be screened for a total of 10 screenings at five renowned cinemas: Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) Lalaport BBCC in Kuala Lumpur; Mega Cineplex Megamal Pinang, Perai; WOMEI Cinema RnF; WOMEI Cineplex Beletime Danga Bay; and, GSC Mid Valley Southkey.



Back Home centers on a wanderer's return, capturing the warm sentiments of nostalgia and familial love. Battle tells a story of companionship and dreams, conveying a simple yet healing warmth. Back to the South uses poetic cinematography to showcase the local customs and cultural heritage of south China. Papa deconstructs educational anxiety with humor, exploring the true essence of family bonds and growth. Mountain Soccer Boy depicts a young dream-chaser's story, conveying a spirited sportsmanship. Each film is the result of the meticulous craftsmanship of Hunan filmmakers, promising Malaysian audiences a cinematic journey that combines visual beauty with emotional depth. 



During the event, the Hunan delegation will conduct the "Encounters in Malaysia" Film Industry Exchange Tour, promoting bilateral exchanges and cooperation in cultural and industrial fields.

On May 18, the delegation visited the GSC headquarters, Malaysia's largest cinema chain operator, for discussions. They engaged in pragmatic talks on topics such as film distribution, cinema chain cooperation, and joint promotion, exploring models for bilateral collaboration.

On May 19, the delegation visited the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Malaysia to conduct in-depth discussions on film and television cultural exchanges and industrial policies alignment, seeking official support and cooperation opportunities.

On May 20, the "Future Light and Shadow – Digital & Intelligence Renaissance" Hunan Digital and Intelligent Image Release and Industry Dialogue Signing Ceremony in Malaysia will be held. The Hunan delegation will present locally produced AIGC film and television works, as well as VR film projects, in Malaysia.
