The Hunan Museum recently announced on its official website that, to maximize visitor capacity, the museum's main venue will extend its opening hours to 8 p.m. during the May Day holiday. The details are as follows:
I. Opening hours
During the May Day holiday from May 1 to May 5, 2026, the Hunan Museum (main venue) will remain open to the public and will extend its hours to 8 p.m. (last entry at 7 p.m. ). The museum's regular closing day, originally scheduled for Monday on May 4, has been rescheduled to Wednesday, May 6.
II. Reservation in advance
The Hunan Museum (main venu) and the Mawangdui Han Tombs Site accept only online reservations made under a real-name registration system for individual visitors. All visitors (including those enjoying preferential policies) must make reservations using their real names before visiting. Visitors can make a reservation at a specific slot seven days in advance (excluding the reservation day) via the museum's official WeChat account and Alipay mini-program. Once the reservation is successfully made, visitors can enter the museum by presenting their reservation records along with valid identification documents. The Hunan Museum (main venue) will extend its opening hours between May 1 and May 5, 2026, and add evening reservation slots ( 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.) to accommodate an additional 5,000 visitors daily.

After completing the preliminary screening and crowd distribution, visitors can proceed through the Visitor Service Center and pass through the turnstiles to reach the West Square of the Hunan Museum. Once visitors have passed through security, they may enter the exhibition building and begin their visit at the Hunan Museum.
