"Giant Panda of Birds" Settles in South Dongting Lake Area

A couple of oriental storks guard their eggs atop a monitoring tower on Duogan Isle in the South Dongting Lake, Nanxian County. These eggs are expected to hatch by mid-April. Oriental storks, known as the "giant panda of birds," have settled down and multiplied here for three consecutive years, with a peak population exceeding 40 according to monitoring data. Leveraging multi-dimensional monitoring and systematic ecological management, the local authority has continuously improved the wetland habitat, demonstrating significant achievements in the ecological protection of the Yangtze River and the harmony between humanity and nature.
