"This is my sixth visit to Hunan. It is captivating for me to explore Hunan and Huxiang culture." Djauhari Oratmangun, Indonesian Ambassador to China, led a delegation to Hunan and gave an interview in Changsha on March 10.

Oratmangun expressed his intention to continuously promote pragmatic cooperation between Indonesia and Hunan Province in such fields as economy, trade, agriculture, and cultural tourism through this visit.

The ambassador and his delegation paid a courtesy call to Hunan's provincial leaders, visited Central South University, and participated in the Indonesia-China Business Dialogue. He also met with the representatives of Indonesian nationals in Hunan, listening to their in-person experiences. "We hope that the two sides will fully align with each other to explore the potential for cooperation in the economic, trade, educational, and cultural fields," he said.

Statistics shows that, as of January 2026, Hunan has established 100 start-ups in Indonesia, with contracted Chinese investment reaching 2.24 billion USD.

Oratmangun remarked that Hunan's comprehensive strength highly dovetails with the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision, especially in the modern technology innovation and high-end manufacturing fields. "Indonesia is accelerating its industrialization progress, ensuring food security and advancing technological upgrades," said the ambassador. "I'm convinced that the integration of Hunan's industrial strengths and Indonesia's future development priorities will create more cooperation opportunities," he added.

In December 2025, Changsha Huanghua International Airport launched a direct passenger air route to Jakarta, making Changsha the only city with such service in central China. With this route, the travel time between the two cities has been shortened to about 5.5 hours. "Connectivity will facilitate trade, travel and sightseeing, business cooperation, and academic communication between the two peoples," Oratmangun said expectantly.

As an old friend who has visited Hunan six times, the ambassador has a deep feeling about Huxiang culture. "I and my delegates are all deeply impressed by Hunan's profound culture, vibrant cultural creation industry, and picturesque natural landscapes. If our peoples make more visits to each other's country, the bond of people-to-people exchange will grow stronger," he said.

Currently, there are more than 300 Indonesian students studying in Changsha and neighboring cities, specializing in their universities' strong majors such as metallurgy, medicine, transportation, and agriculture. The ambassador vowed to further consolidate the traditional friendship between Indonesian and Hunan peoples through talent cultivation, tourism promotion, media collaboration, and cultural and festive events.
