Dongzhou Island is located in the middle of the Xiangjiang River in the southeast of Hengyang City. It is approximately 2 kilometers long and more than 200 meters wide, with 25 mu (about 1.67 hectares) of sandy beaches.
The island features a nunnery, an academy, ancient trees, peach blossoms, and beaches during the dry season.
The area is water-locked, featuring a dense forest and a tranquil environment. Yueyang's Junshan Island, Changsha's Orange Isle, and Hengyang's Dongzhou Island are known as the three isles in the Xiangjiang River Basin. Dongzhou Island was one of the eight views of Hengyang in ancient times.
