Dashu, or the Major Heat, is the 12th of the 24 solar terms on the Chinese lunar calendar and the final solar term of summer. It begins on July 23 this year. During Dashu, most parts of China enter the hottest time of the year. In classical Chinese, the character "Shu" evokes the image of boiling, conveying the image that the earth is like a pot of boiling water.
