Xiaoshu, also known as Minor Heat, is the 5th solar term of summer and the 11th of the 24 solar terms on the Chinese lunar calendar. It begins on July 7 this year. It signifies a period of increasing heat, though extreme heat has not yet peaked. Alongside the rising temperatures, thunderstorms and rainfall are frequent during this period. Minor Heat coincides with the harvest of a variety of melons, such as cantaloupes and watermelons.
