Hunan Province and North Gyeongsang Province, also known as Gyeongsangbuk-do, South Korea, established a friendship province relationship in November 2018.

Location of North Gyeongsang Province
North Gyeongsang Province is located in southeastern South Korea with Andong as its capital. It is one of the country's major manufacturing hubs, producing steel, electronic components, auto parts, semiconductor materials, and secondary battery materials. Biomedicine, precision machinery, new materials, robotics, and food processing are also key industries of this region. Over the past five years, the province’s output of specialty agricultural products, including apples, ginseng, and chili peppers, as well as meat and processed aquatic products, has grown steadily.

Andong City, North Gyeongsang Province
In September 2023, Li Dianxun, then deputy secretary of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee, met with a delegation led by Kim Hak-hong, vice governor of North Gyeongsang Province.
In June 2024, Zhang Yingchun, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee and executive vice governor of Hunan Province, led a delegation to visit the North Gyeongsang provincial government. Lee Cheol-woo and Kim Hak-hong, governor and vice governor of North Gyeongsang Province, met with the Hunan delegation.
Over the years, Hunan and North Gyeongsang Province have implemented exchange programs for nearly 20 trainees and staff, playing a significant role in advancing bilateral exchanges and cooperation. Since 2021, there have been five Hunan-North Gyeongsang Province Civil Servants Friendship Exchange Competitions, featuring various events.
