As one of the key birthplaces of Duanwu (Dragon Boat Festival) culture, Hunan is attracting many tourists with its dragon boat races, intangible cultural heritage experiences, folk activities, and immersive cultural tourism scenarios. From dragon boat racing along the Miluo River to intangible cultural heritage experiences on the streets of Changsha, from China-chic dramas at Tongguan Kiln to the Yao ethnic folk festival on Mangshan Mountain, a wealth of spectacular cultural tourism feasts are ready to unfold.

As the highest standard and most influential dragon boat event in Hunan, the 2026 Hunan Provincial Dragon Boat Super League Finals and the "Our Festival· Dragon Boat Festival" themed cultural activities will be held from June 17 to 19 in Miluo — a city known as the "origin of the Dragon Boat Festival and hometown of dragon boats."

During the event, a one-stop Dragon Boat Festival carnival will be held at the Miluo River International Dragon Boat Race Center and the riverside scenic area. Visitors can not only watch exciting dragon boat races but also explore an intangible cultural heritage fair and experience folk cultural activities.

On weekends throughout June and on Dragon Boat Festival (June 19), the Changsha Intangible Cultural Heritage Hall and the Changsha Drama Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition Center will host "Mangzhong Fun: Dragon Boat Festival Art Rhythms" experiential activities. Free hands-on experiences include traditional incense blending, Chinese tea art, wooden movable-type printing, bamboo weaving, Liuyang Xiabu cloth making, five-colored string weaving, and Hunan-style Zongzi making, allowing residents and visitors to experience the charm of traditional culture up close.

Binjiang Cultural Park has launched intangible cultural heritage activities, with projects such as palm mat making and resist-dyeing techniques allowing visitors to experience the beauty of craftsmanship by the Xiangjiang River. The "Youth in Intangible Cultural Heritage Class" Dragon Boat Festival public welfare course offers hands-on activities to children, including filigree zongzi-shaped bookmark making, Changsha dough figurines, crocheted mugwort leaves, and poem writing in Nvshu (women's script).

Meanwhile, special Changsha Tanci performances, shadow puppet shows, and a Dragon Boat Festival-themed photo spot will also be unveiled, providing residents and visitors with a festive experience that blends culture with fun.

From June 19 to 21, Qianyang Ancient Town in Huaihua will offer free admission. Visitors can take part in Zongzi wrapping contests, land dragon boat races, and blessing ceremonies at the Confucian Temple, as well as interact with costumed characters like "Wang Changling" and "Qu Yuan." High school and middle school graduates can participate in the blessing activities for free with their exam admission tickets; those who recite Wang Changling's poems may even have the chance to receive special cultural and creative gifts.

The Mangshan Mountain Tourism Area in Chenzhou will host the Yao Ethnic Folk Festival from June 19 to 20. Activities such as a lanmen wine ceremony (welcome wine ceremony), tea-picking dances, bamboo pole dances, Yao handmade crafts, cloud-top blessings, long table banquets, and bonfire parties are scheduled, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the charm of ethnic minority culture.

Changsha Tongguan Kiln China-chic Theme Park will turn the Dragon Boat Festival holiday into a large-scale immersive scripted game. Park-wide script interactions, China-chic performances, molten iron fireworks shows, sky lantern displays, and drone light shows will unfold in succession, transforming this Tang-style cultural park into a giant live-action role-playing game venue, offering visitors distinctive Dragon Boat Festival celebrations.
