On July 31, the 2026 "Hunan Talents for Hunan Prosperity" Traditional Chinese Medicine Culture Experience Event for Foreign Talents was held in Changsha. The event invited over 30 high-end talents, professionals, and international students from the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, Pakistan, and other countries to visit Changsha Jiuzhitang Co., Ltd. and Hunan University of Chinese Medicine, offering an immersive experience and appreciation of the inheritance and innovation of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) culture. 

At the Jiuzhitang Health Building, participants visited the TCM Intangible Cultural Heritage Exhibition Area, learning about the century-long evolution and profound heritage of TCM culture. They experienced four diagnostic methods of TCM, namely, "inspection, auscultation and olfaction, inquiry, and palpation," along with traditional therapies like massage and moxibustion. Under the guidance of pharmacists, they also learned to make medicinal tea bags and herbal sachets. Martin from Canada remarked, "This event has shown me the uniqueness of TCM—it is not only used for treating illnesses but also represents a scientific and healthy lifestyle philosophy. I will definitely recommend it to more friends back home."

At the School of Pharmacy of Hunan University of Chinese Medicine, participants learned about the cooperation and research achievements of the TCM and Ethnomedicine Innovation & Development International Laboratory in collaboration with countries involving in the Belt and Road initiative, particularly in the areas of research on pharmacodynamic material basis, clinical formulation development, and international talent cultivation. At the Hunan Provincial Engineering Technology Research Center for Health Products and Life Science, participants sampled herbal beverages and exchanged views with researchers on "food-medicine homology" functional foods. The event concluded with an engaging TCM science popularization lecture, through which attendees gained a systematic understanding of the scientific and cultural values of TCM and developed a deeper comprehension and appreciation of Hunan's TCM culture.

The event was hosted by the Department of Science and Technology of Hunan Province and organized by the Hunan Provincial Foreign Science & Technology Exchange Center, as part of the "Hunan Talents for Hunan Prosperity" serial events. A spokesperson for the department noted that the event, themed "Traditional Medicine Dialogues with Modern Technology," connected outstanding foreign talents with traditional Hunan culture, further enhancing their sense of belonging and integration in the province. Moving forward, the department will also organize a series of activities, including the "International Friends' View of Hunan" photography and short video contest, and volunteer services and specialized training sessions for foreign talents, to expand Hunan's international influence and improve the service for foreign talents in the province.
