The 2026 BRICS Forum on Partnership on New Industrial Revolution opened in Xiamen, Fujian Province on May 27. A total of 25 BRICS countries and regions participated.
Yu Hongsheng, vice governor of Hunan Province, attended the major events of the forum and delivered a keynote speech.
President Xi Jinping proposed the BRICS Partnership on New Industrial Revolution initiative at the 10th BRICS Summit, charting the course for BRICS industrial cooperation, Yu Hongsheng stated. As one of China's top 10 provincial economic heavyweights and a manufacturing powerhouse, Hunan has always kept in mind President Xi Jinping's important instructions, striving to build itself into an advanced manufacturing hub of national importance, a sci-tech and innovation center with core competitiveness, and a pacesetter for reform and the opening up of inland regions. Hunan is willing to fully leverage its strengths in science and education as well as its industrial advantages to deepen cooperation with BRICS countries for mutual benefit and win-win outcomes, advancing smart and green transformation in industry.
During the event, Vice Governor Yu successively met with ministers of industry and trade and diplomatic envoys to China from African countries including Nigeria, Zimbabwe, and Ethiopia. They focused on leveraging the two major national-level platforms—the China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo and the Pioneering Zone for In-depth China-Africa Economic and Trade Cooperation, with an emphasis on such key areas as construction machinery, mining development, automobiles and auto parts, new energy, and agriculture. The discussions also covered seizing opportunities arising from the zero-tariff policy for Africa, continuously expanding the scope of cooperation, elevating the level of collaboration, and jointly bringing China-Africa economic and trade ties to new heights. The Hunan enterprises in attendance included SANY's microgrid sector, ZMEA Limited, the Hunan Depus Medical Technology Co., Ltd., and the Haotong International Transportation Agent Co., Ltd. They reached preliminary cooperation intentions on specific projects with the African side.
