On October 21, the first batch of 193 cases of Guzhang Maojian and Guzhang Black Tea, valued at 428,000 CNY, departed from Guzhang County for Russia, marking a major breakthrough in self-operated export of local tea brands in Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture.
The tea cultivation area in Guzhang County totals 205,000 mu (approximately 13,667 hectares), with its per capita tea garden area ranking first across the province. Its uniquely favorable natural conditions have nurtured two national geographical indication products—Guzhang Maojian and Guzhang Black Tea. By the end of this September, the county's tea output had reached 9,285.6 tonnes, with an output value of 2.22 billion CNY, up 9.5% and 8.58% year on year respectively.
For a long time, Guzhang's tea exports were mainly in the form of raw materials and commissioned third-party intermediary trade, making it difficult for local independent brands to directly enter the international market.
This export order was independently handled by Xiangxi Bairun Agricultural Technology Co., Ltd., from liaising with overseas clients to customs declaration and clearance. Overseas clients made a special field trip to Guzhang, visiting high-mountain tea gardens and production workshops and tasting Guzhang tea on the spot, and finally contracted for an order worth 10 million CNY. "This is the best tea I have ever tasted; it carries the flavor of spring," said a Russian client after experiencing the tea garden's ecology firsthand and savoring the fresh aroma of Guzhang Maojian, expressing high recognition of the tea quality.
To ensure quality of exported tea, the enterprise ships its products in batches. Every box of exported tea carries a unique back label, enabling full-chain traceability from tea garden management, production and processing, to export. Local departments of agriculture and rural affairs, commerce, customs, and market supervision made on-site visits to guide quality control across tea garden management and the whole tea production process in accordance with Russian food safety standards, and provided hands-on assistance to the enterprise in completing export registration, product testing, and customs clearance, resolving bottlenecks and difficulties across all stages of foreign trade export.
