Spring Festival Celebrations Across Hunan (Till Feb. 12)

The Spring Festival, or Chinese New Year, is the most important festival in China – a time for family reunions, traditions, and preparing for the year ahead. A variety of activities are scheduled to be held across Hunan to celebrate the new year.


Duration: January 19 to February 12
Venue: Hanshou County, Changde
Activities: Colorful activities such as Spring Festival couplet distribution, Lantern Festival celebrations, and the "Year of the Snake" folk customs photo exhibition, will give tourists an immersive experience of a strong festive atmosphere and the unique cultural charm of Hanshou County.

Duration: February 11 and 12
Venue: Hunan Cultural Center (Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Center of Hunan Province), Changsha
Activities: Delicacy tasting, showcase of traditional intangible cultural heritage items, exhibition of youth inheritors of intangible cultural heritage, hands-on experiences, and cultural creations.

Duration: January 23 to February 12
Venue: Yongding District, Zhangjiajie
Activities: Art performances on the main stage at the Lantern Show; themed lantern exhibitions; parade and performances; and, week-long cultural activities.

Duration:January 29 to February 12
Venue: Qianyang Ancient Town
Activities: A Hanfu-themed party will be held, allowing tourists to enjoy free admission to Furong Tower, Confucius Temple, and other scenic spots, and to have an immersive experience of traditional and modern music during a Hanfu electronic music show. A fantastic time travel activity will be launched during the Lantern Festival which falls on February 12 this year.

Time: 19:00-23:30 on February 12
Venue: Anjiang Dasheping Harvest Theater
Activities: Lantern Festival celebrations and lantern riddle guessing.

Duration: January 23 to February 12
Venue: Yuanshenwan Tourist Area
Activities: Distinctive events to be held to enable tourists have a chance to experience the charm of traditional farming culture; various games including Touhu, or pitch-pot, an ancient entertainment that requires players to throw sticks from a set distance into a canister.

Duration: January 29 to February 12
Venue: Xuefeng Mountain National Forest Park
Activities: Jubilant dragon dance performances; lantern riddle guessing; Yuanxiao (sweet glutinous rice dumplings) tasting; and, a fair for local specialty products.
