More than 90 international flights into and out of Hunan’s airports and a total exit-entry passengers of over 11,000 were examined during the three-day New Year holiday, a year-on-year increase of 35.5% and 38.9% respectively, according to the statistics released by the Hunan Border Defense Contingent. In 2015, the number of outbound and inbound passengers at Changsha Huanghua International Airport, Zhangjiajie Hehua Airport and Yueyang Chenglingji Port exceeded 1.9 million and the number of flights and ships into and out of Hunan reached 12,000, up by 36.6% and 38% respectively compared to the same period of 2014. The number of outbound and inbound passengers grew 10 times over the previous decade.

Thailand has become the most preferred destination for Hunan people, followed by Taiwan, South Korea, Japan and Germany. In terms of international tourists to Hunan, visitors from South Korea ranked the top in ten consecutive years and over 90% of them hold a tourist passport. And tourists from Thailand, Malaysia and Singapore followed close behind due to the normalization of flights between Changsha and Southeast Asia. However, the number of German tourists exceeded that from the USA and leaped to the fifth place thanks to the normalization of Changsha-Frankfurt flight. The number of foreign tourists to Hunan is expected to hit a record high in 2016 as Changsha offers 72-hour free-visa stays to international transit passengers from 51 countries starting Jan. 1st, 2016.
