Hunan Provincial Museum, Palace Museum to Collaborate

Director of the Palace Museum Shan Jixiang, and Deputy Director of the State Bureau of Cultural Relics Guan Qiang, came in Changsha on August 27, to inspect the reconstruction and extension project at Hunan Provincial Museum.

 

Shan Jixiang and the other delegates first visited the constructing hall’s sightseeing platform, lobby, and the restored Mawangdui Tombs of the Han Dynasty (206 B.C. – 220 A.D.). They later listened to introduction of layout, functions, and VR technology applied in the museum, schedule for reopening day, and planning for two standing exhibitions, namely, Mawangdui Tombs of the Han Dynasty, and Hunanese – Hunan culture and history exhibition.


During the inspection tour, Shan shared experience on operation and creative cultural product development of the Palace Museum. Discussion about issues concerning co-organizing exhibitions has also been made between both sides. And an agreement on strengthening cooperation and exchange has been reached.


Guan Qiang on behalf of the State Bureau of Cultural Relics, vowed to support Hunan Provincial Museum’s construction and development.


The Hunan Provincial Museum reconstruction and extension project, covering an area of 84,500 sqm, has been developing smoothly since it started in the second half of 2013. It is estimated to reopen to the public in the second half of 2017. By then, its annual reception capacity would be enlarged from 1.2 million to 3 million people.
