“China is great! Traditional Chinese medicine is awesome!” Henok, an international student from Ethiopia, gave a thumbs-up when he was recently discharged from the First Hospital of the Hunan University of Chinese Medicine.

Henok is studying in Changsha and has a passion for Chinese culture and folk customs. Unfortunately, a few days ago, he suffered from a rectum problem and was recommended to the First Hospital of the Hunan University of Chinese Medicine.

The hospital customized a minimally invasive surgery plan for him and adopted Chinese medicine nursing treatment to reduce complications. After completing the combined treatment of Chinese and western medicine, Henok recovered. The curative effect of Chinese medicine impressed him.

In recent years, traditional Chinese medicine has gone global and got popular among foreigners. Incomplete statistics show that Chinese medicine has been used in more than 100 countries. There are more than 80,000 clinics and 300,000 doctors of traditional Chinese medicine worldwide. During the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, the traditional Chinese medicine experience center had attracted athletes and officials from various countries.

“I know that traditional Chinese medicine treatments are good for health, such as Tui Na (Chinese therapeutic massage), moxibustion, and cupping,” said Henork. The Chinese anti-pandemic medical expert team to Ethiopia used traditional Chinese medicine to assist in the local fight against the COVID-19 epidemic. Chinese experiences and solutions had played a significant role in the collaborated work against the pandemic. “China’s success in fighting against the epidemic reassured us to stay in China,” he said.

The First Hospital of the Hunan University of Chinese Medicine established a branch in Dubai to promote the international development of traditional Chinese medicine. Following the principle of “integrating Chinese and western medicine, giving accurate diagnosis and treatment, and benefiting the people," the hospital branch uses modern technologies to make a diagnosis. To cure the patients, it adopts traditional Chinese medicine therapies, such as acupuncture, moxibustion, and Tui Na. It provides healthcare services for Dubai people and 200,000 Chinese in the country.

The hospital branch is trying to construct a regional Chinese medicine treatment center that will serve all Middle East countries.
