The China Ecological Civilization Forum Annual Conference was held recently. The Ministry of Ecology and Environment announced, and granted nameplates to, the third batch of 84 national ecological civilization development demonstration cities and counties, and the third batch of 23 practice and innovation bases for implementing the idea of “lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets”. Wangcheng District in Changsha, Lingling District in Yongzhou, and Taoyuan and Shimen counties in Changde, were listed as demonstration counties/districts. Zixing City made the list of practice and innovation bases. 

 

The national ecological civilization development demonstration county selection was initiated in 2017. Strict indicators were set in six aspects – ecological space; ecological economy; ecological environment; eco life; ecological systems; and, ecological culture. The event aims to set duplicable and propagable samples for other areas in China. 

 

As of now, Hunan has 6 national ecological civilization development demonstration cities/counties. Jianghua Yao Autonomous County in Yongzhou and Wulingyuan District in Zhangjiajie were included in the first and second batches respectively. 

 

Zixing is Hunan’s first practice and innovation base. According to the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, such bases should try to explore effective ways to transfer “lucid waters and lush mountains” into invaluable assets; elevate ecological product supply; innovate systems and mechanisms to realize ecological value; and, create green brands to benefit the people.
