2023-03-22 Download Print

A joint exhibition of tea cultural relics from 8 provinces and 1 autonomous region along the Tea Road opened at the Hunan Museum on March 21. More than 300 cultural relics from 16 cultural venues and museums are on display, reproducing prosperous scenes along the ancient Tea Road.

The exhibition was guided by the National Cultural Heritage Administration, and organized by the Office of Joint Application for the Tea Road's Inclusion on the UNESCO World Heritage List and the cultural heritage bureaus of Fujian, Jiangxi, Anhui, Hunan, Hubei, Henan, Shanxi, and Hebei provinces, and Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.

From the 17th century to the early 20th century, Chinese tea was sold to Mongolia, Russia and other European countries through today's Fujian, Jiangxi, Anhui, Hunan, Hubei, Henan, Shanxi, Hebei and Inner Mongolia. With a total length of over 14,000 kilometers, this route was called "Tea Road of Ten Thousand Miles". In March 2019, the Tea Road was officially included in the Tentative List of China's World Cultural Heritage by the National Cultural Heritage Administration.

The exhibition is composed of four parts: "Hometown of Tea", "Tea Spread", "Cultural Road" and "Joint Application for UNESCO World Heritage Status". It reproduces the bustling and influential tea trade road.
