The "Exhibition on the Works of Gustav Klimt Forerunner of Modernism" opened at Qi Baishi Memorial Hall in Xiangtan City on October 20. It is hosted by the Hunan Provincial People's Government and the Xiangtan Municipal People's Government, and organized by the Xiangtan Municipal Bureau of Culture, Tourism, Radio, Television and Sports. The exhibition features 28 replicas of Gustav Klimt’s works.

Gustav Klimt (1862-1918), born in Vienna, the capital of Austria in 1862, is a famous symbolist painter and a founder of the Vienna Secession. His representative works include "Goldfish", "The Three Ages of Woman", "Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer", "Danae", "Satisfaction", "Salome", and "Flower Garden". With a unique and bold artistic style, the works express the vitality of life and various complex emotions, and have had a direct influence on the development of expressionism and symbolism in the 20th century.

Relevant person in charge of the Xiangtan Municipal Bureau of Culture, Tourism, Radio, Television and Sports said that this year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Austria. The exhibition on the works of Gustav Klimt is held in Xiangtan, the hometown of Qi Baishi. Qi Baishi (1864-1957) was one of the most well-known contemporary Chinese painters. It is a dialogue between the two great art masters of the East and the West who were born at the same period. It also serves as a link for cultural and artistic exchanges between Xiangtan and Vienna. The exhibition will last till November 13.
