On the afternoon of March 25, the Information Office of the Hunan Provincial People’s Government held the sixth press conference on the province’s coordinated efforts to advance epidemic prevention and control and economic and social development.

Preventing imports of infections is a top priority for Hunan’s current epidemic prevention and control, Chen Xiaochun, director of the Hunan Health Commission, said at the press conference.

As of March 25, there had been no new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Hunan for 25 consecutive days. On March 14, all hospitalized confirmed patients in the province were discharged. The epidemic situation has been basically contained, and positive results have been achieved. On March 23, Hunan adjusted the epidemic risk levels of all of its 122 counties, county-level cities, and urban districts to low risk, according to their epidemic situation in the past week.

As the epidemic spreads worldwide rapidly, the risks of imports of infections have been increased. So far, confirmed cases have been found in 190 countries and regions. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), the number of confirmed cases has exceeded 300,000. In this regard, Hunan will focus on port quarantine, classified management, and community and village-level epidemic prevention and control. A total of 14,413 inbound people in Hunan have been identified and 12,992 nucleic acid tests have been carried out. No imported cases had been reported so far.

Next, Hunan will take substantial, strict and precise efforts to prevent imports of infections from abroad, and formulate and improve related policies and measures. The province will also strengthen connectivity and inter-provincial coordination, improve the mechanisms for data sharing, information reporting, and inspection of inbound personnel, so as to ensure seamless connection between air transport, port quarantine, personnel pick-up and transfer, and community prevention and control; implement the requirements of "early detection, reports, quarantine, and treatment"; and, resolutely prevent spread caused by imported cases.
