Du Jiahao, CPC Hunan Provincial Committee secretary and Hunan Provincial People’s Congress Standing Committee director, met in Changsha with Michael Levitt, winner of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry and vice chairman of the World Laureates Association (WLA), on January 20, 2020.
Secretary Du welcomed the guests. He marked that, Hunan, located in central China, has strong scientific research and medical care strength, and long history of international healthcare cooperation. Along with economic and social development, and people’s livelihood improvement, Hunan people have paid increasing attention to health and medical care. This boosts sci-tech innovation and progress of medical care undertakings. He expected WLA to keep an eye on Hunan, and support Hunan to host world-class medicine science forums, and construct innovative clinical trial hospitals, laboratories, and innovation centers, so as to facilitate Hunan’s innovation and opening up to the world.
Levitt spoke highly of Hunan’s solid foundation and competitiveness in sci-tech innovation and health care. WLA was willing to join hands with Hunan to establish world-class laboratories and innovative clinical trial hospitals, and organize WLA forums, so as to enhance biological medicine research and innovation, and promote medical and health care development in Hunan, and even China, he added.
Provincial leaders Zhang Jianfei and Wu Guiying, and Central South University President Tian Hongqi also attended.
