2020 New Year Chinese Folk Music Appreciation Concert Held

A 2020 New Year Chinese Folk Music Appreciation Concert opened at the Hunan Library on January 15. It was hosted by the library and the Hunan Vocational College of Art.


The concert was broadcasted lively on the Hunan Public Culture and Tourism Cloud Platform. Nearly 300 audience on site and 60,000 netizens watched. Ding Yu, vice chairman of the Hunan Federation of Social Science (HFSS), Zhang Yong, president of the Hunan Vocational College of Art, and He Meihua, curator of the Hunan Library, attended.


A number of Chinese traditional musical instruments were played, such as Erhu (a Chinese two-stringed fiddle), bamboo flute, Zhongruan (a Chinese plucked string instrument), Pipa (Chinese lute), Guzheng (Chinese zither), trapezoidal Yangqin, Sheng (a Chinese mouth-blown free reed instrument), and Suona (a Chinese double-reed horn). Chinese classical music “Shi Mian Mai Fu (ambush from all sides)”, “Chun Jiang Hua Yue Ye (moonlit river in spring)”, “Horse Racing”, and “Bai Niao Chao Feng (hundreds of birds pay homage to phoenix)” were performed.


Kang Yi, professor of the Hunan Vocational College of Arts and national-level player, narrated every show from the aspects of musical instrument, story, and skill evolution, to better the audience’s understanding about Chinese folk music.
