The Hunan Airport Corporation announced, on December 22, that the Civil Aviation Administration of China approved a new overall plan (2019 version) of the Changsha Huanghua International Airport. Short-term (10 years) and long-term (30 years) development blueprints were mapped out to build the airport into a regional hub connecting subway, high-speed railway, maglev express, and intercity railway.
The plan is based on the principles of “safe, green, intelligent, and people-orientated”. According to the plan, by 2030, the airport will handle 60 million passenger trips, 600,000 tons of cargo, and 456,000 flights; and, in 2050, 90 million passenger trips, 15 million tons of cargo, and 615,000 flights.
The airport will have four runways, 431 parking bays, and 4 terminals. It will form a rapid traffic distribution system together with subway, high-speed railway, maglev express, and intercity railway.
