The former site of the Lakeside University, located in Nanhu New Area, Yueyang City, was recently inscribed on the fourth batch of the 20th century Chinese architectural heritages. It was selected by the Chinese Society of Relics, the Architectural Society of China, and the Beijing Institute of Architectural Design (BIAD). Hunan has three buildings on the list.
The Lakeside University former site is located in the Huangshawan Scenic Area. The university was founded by Mary Belle Adult Hoy, wife of American priest William Edwin Hoy, in 1901. In May 2013, the site was listed by the State Council as one of the 7th batch of the national key relic protection units. It is the only well preserved Christian university site in China, with 13 cultural-relic buildings.
China announced the first batch of the 20th century Chinese architectural heritages in 2016.  The fourth batch list was revealed on December 3, with 396 candidate buildings listed. The Lakeside University site is Yueyang’s only candidate entering the list.
