2019 is the China-Japan Youth Exchange Promotion Year. From this year on, the Chinese and Japanese governments plan to organize exchange visits of 30,000 youths within five years. The “China-Japan Afforestation International Joint Undertaking” event is a key part in the promotion year, guided by the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and organized by the Japan-China Friendship Center.

Hunan delegation’s theme was environmental protection and disaster prevention and mitigation. During their stay in Japan, Hunan students attended the lectures on earthquake disaster mitigation and relief, and the treatment of Lake Biwa in Tokyo and Shiga; and, exchanged views and shared experiences concerning promotion of sustainable development with students of the University of Shiga Prefecture and Kanda University of International Studies. They visited the Shiga Prefecture Government and Lake Biwa Museum, planted friendship trees, and experienced Japanese life in local farmhouses. They learnt about the friendship between Hunan and Shiga, which lasted for 36 years, and the charms of the prefecture.

On November 29, a 500-person Chinese and Japanese student conference was held. Miyamoto Yuji, acting chairperson of the Japan-China Friendship Center and former Japanese ambassador to China, Yang Yu, minister-counsellor of Chinese Embassy in Japan, and Yuan Mindao, secretary general of the China-Japan Friendship Association, addressed the conference.
Nine Chinese and Japanese students shared their photos and presented charms of their countries. Hunan student Yuan Ye talked about Japan in her eyes. At the banquet after the conference, Hunan Normal University students performed Miao’s song and dance to show Chinese cultural charm.

Hunan participants were deeply impressed by Japan through the 8-day tour, and willing to share what they saw and felt during their visits to their teachers, friends, and families, and try their best to contribute to promoting China-Japan friendship.
