The Italian National Day Reception was held at HB (Changsha) Film Town, Changsha on the morning of June 2. Chinese and Italian guests gathered together to celebrate the 73rd anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Italy. At the reception, the film town was presented with the nameplate of “China-Italy Cultural Exchange Platform”.

Lucia Pasqualini, Italy’s consul general in Guangzhou; Liu Qifeng, deputy director of the Office of Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Hunan Provincial Committee; Gao Yangxian, deputy director of the Hunan Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism; and Chen Zhong, Changsha deputy mayor, attended.

In recent years, China-Italy relations have maintained a good momentum of development. Italy is one of the most open investment destinations in Europe for Chinese investors, and the first G7 country to participate in the Belt and Road Initiative.

With the deepening Sino-Italian cooperation, Italy has become one of the most important European countries in Changsha’s external relations. Thanks to the joint efforts of both sides, the imports and exports volume reached 329 million USD in 2018, an increase of 37.36% over last year. Exports totaled 163 million USD, up 28.13%. Imports totaled 166 million USD, up 47.83%.

Changsha has recently carried out a series of exchanges and cooperation with Italy in the fields of automobile manufacturing, construction machinery, culture and education, and fashion and life.  Italian-invested companies in Changsha like GAC FIAT CHRYSLER Automobiles Co., Ltd. and Hunan CIFA Construction Machinery Co., Ltd. have become the symbolic achievements of mutual benefit and win-win result between the two sides.

Consul General Lucia Pasqualini said that the reception held in Changsha shows that Italy attaches great importance to Hunan and Changsha. This is the first time that the Italian Consulate General in Guangzhou held such a celebration in the place outside of Guangzhou. She hoped that she continues to make her own contribution to increasing understanding and exchanges between Italy and Hunan. While deepening economic and trade cooperation, it’s important to strengthen Sino-Italian cultural exchanges and mutual learning. And more Italian art exhibitions are expected to be held in Hunan so that more Hunan people will have a chance to get close to Italian culture and fall in love with this beautiful and romantic country.

Deputy Mayor Chen remarked that, according to the new pattern of China’s overall opening up led by the “Belt and Road” Initiative and Hunan’s innovation-oriented opening up strategy, Changsha is striving to build itself into a new opening-up highland in central China, and is opening wider to the world. It is hoped that the Consulate General of Italy in Guangzhou will further play its role as a bridge linking China and Italy, support Changsha and Italy in deepening economic and trade cooperation, and strengthen cultural exchanges, so as to achieve mutual benefits and win-win results, and create a better future.
