The "Measures for Cultivation of Key Types of Biomedicine Industrial Chain in Hunan Province" was unveiled recently. It was jointly issued by the Industry and Information Technology Department of Hunan Province, the Health Commission of Hunan Province, the Hunan Provincial Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and the Hunan Medical Products Administration. It said that the revenue of provincial biomedical industry will reach 240 billion yuan by 2025.

The biomedical industrial cluster (industrial chain) is one of the major emerging advantageous industrial chains cultivated in Hunan Province. There are currently an array of listed pharmaceutical and biological companies in the province, including Aier Eye Hospital, Yifeng Pharmacy, LBX Pharmacy, Sansure Biotech, and Sinocare. Their business covers the upper, middle, and lower reaches of the industrial chain.

During the "14th Five-Year Plan" period, Hunan government will select and identify about 40 key biomedical industry chain types every year, focusing on innovative, unique, promising, and import-substitutable Hunan-made product types with leading key technologies, large market demand, good development foundation, and a certain scale and market share, to provide continuous support.

Hunan aims to cultivate 5 leading types with annual sales of more than 1 billion yuan; 20 leading types with annual sales of more than 500 million yuan; 100 main types with annual sales of more than 100 million yuan; and, 10 Hunan-produced medicines entering the international mainstream market by 2025. It will drive the development of leading enterprises with the cultivation of key types, and strive to nurture 2 enterprises with annual sales revenue exceeding 5 billion yuan and 15 enterprises exceeding 2 billion yuan.

The four departments will release the "Catalogue of Key Types of the Biomedical Industrial Chain in Hunan Province" in batches. Those key types will receive financial or policy support in terms of innovation and upgrading, import of raw materials and equipment, development environment, and market application.
