Hunan Foreign Trade Up 25.9% in First 5 Months

Recent Changsha customs data shows that, between January and May, Hunan’s total value of imports and exports reached 211.12 billion CNY, making a 25.9% increase over last year. The export value rose by 29.5% to 143.03 billion CNY, while the import value increased by 18.8% to 68.09 billion CNY. The total value of imports and exports in May hit 47.6 billion CNY.


Trade between Hunan and its main partners such as ASEAN countries kept growing. In the first five months, the value of trade with ASEAN countries hit 32.4 billion CNY, up 18.8% year on year; and, that with the U.S.A was 30.98 billion CNY, increasing by 108.8%. Besides, Hunan’s trade with 27 EU countries (UK not included), the Belt and Road countries, and the RCEP partners respectively grew by 24.8%, 13.2%, and 20.3%.  


Mechanical and electrical products were major exported goods, contributing 45.5% of the total export value of the province. Hi-tech product export increased by 33.2%. 


Imports of electronic components decreased by 32%. Metal and ore sand, iron ore, and copper ore imports grew to some extent. Grain imports rose by 151%. 


In this period, Hunan-based private enterprises maintained vibrant in import and export trade. State-owned enterprises showed a relatively rapid growth in import and export value, up 73.7% year on year.
